Withdrawal and Side Effects: Because nerve repair begins as soon as the treatment is given, patients experience considerably less withdrawal than they would experience by simply stopping the drug. Patients are able to receive treatment in an outpatient setting, sitting in a comfortable chair. Cravings and any withdrawal symptoms are typically gone in 3-5 days. Side effects of the treatment may include some chest heaviness, nasal stuffiness, or diarrhea. Side effects are controlled by the speed of the IV infusion, and they subside almost completely after a few days of treatment.
How Long the Effect Lasts: Most patients need only one 10-day treatment. Some will need a few 1- or 2-day booster treatments at monthly intervals. The effects last a lifetime, provided the patient continues to abstain. If there is recurrence, the patient can be treated again and it will work just as well the second time (except this time, the patient is usually a little wiser).
Aftercare: Getting involved in a supportive aftercare program and avoiding negative influences are both very important aspects of success after treatment, as they are in any addiction treatment strategy.
Cost: The NTR System™ costs $6900 for the 10-day program. If additional days are needed, they are prorated. The cost for patients with addiction to benzodiazepenes (drugs such as Valium, Klonopin, Ativan and Xanax) is $8900.
Availability: The William Hitt Center maintains availability for new patients to start as soon as they decide they are ready. Also, we can recommend other clinics that use the NTR System™ that may be closer to your home.
