Adrenal Cortical Extract

As a result of long-term illness or long-term stress, the human adrenal gland will often become somewhat burned out and unable to meet the demands of daily life.

The adrenal gland produces a number of compounds. The most important one for our health and daily functioning is cortisol, the body's main stress hormone. Another well-recognized one is adrenaline. Cortisol's main functions are to prevent blood pressure and blood sugar from going too low; if either of these things happen, a person becomes weak and may pass out. Cortisol also acts as our main anti-inflammatory hormone, preventing allergic and other reactions from getting out of hand. Finally, cortisol has definite beneficial effects on the emotions, allowing a healthy person to feel calm and ready to face the day ahead.

A number of stresses are known to be able to wear the body down to the point where it no longer produces adequate cortisol: excess illness or infection, and excess emotional or physical stress. This wearing out is either a function of the brain not stimulating the adrenal gland enough, or of the gland itself wearing down, or both. When this happens, the patient suffers from weakness, feeling overwhelmed, trouble getting out of bed in the morning, feeling "wired" at night, salt cravings, irritability or increased allergy.

The key to restoring adrenal function lies in first addressing the underlying problems that caused the excess stresses and correcting those, to decrease the demand on the adrenal gland. Secondly, the adrenal gland can be nourished by Adrenal Cortical Extract. This extract is given intravenously once or twice a week, and helps the adrenal gland rebuild. There are also oral preparations that can assist in this function. Oral Adrenal Cortex Complex gives the adrenally-fatigued patient a needed boost within 20 minutes, and can be taken as often as needed. Cordyceps medicinal mushroom is the best agent for long-term rebuilding of the adrenal gland.

Finally, lifestyle helps adrenal restoration. Once illnesses have been addressed, the patient should seek adequate sleep, good diet and regular exercise, and keep excessive stresses and demands under control.
