Dr. William M. Hitt received his degree from Westchester-Cappell. As part of his training he received personal instruction in microscopy and virology from Dr. Papanicolau, the inventor of the Pap smear. During his early career he worked in advancing the science of tissue culture techniques at Baltimore Biological Laboratory. His main work after that was in the emerging field of immunology, with notable accomplishment in characterizing the immune factors present in urine that can be used therapeutically. In the 1980s he undertook research into the potential of amino acid therapy in restoring damaged neurotransmission in addiction patients, leading ultimately to the formulation of the famous NTR Systemâ„¢ for addictions.
Dr. Hitt is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the Asociacion Psiquiatrica Mexicana, A.C. and the Canadian Psychiatric Association / L'Association des psychiatres du Canada.
